Conference Goals

“It is the true duty of every man to promote the happiness of his fellow creatures to the utmost of his power.”

“If there is no passionate love for Christ at the center of everything, we will only jingle and jangle our way across the world, merely making a noise as we go.”

“True Christians consider themselves not as satisfying some rigorous creditor, but as discharging a debt of gratitude”

—William Wilberforce, Real Christianity

These words from William Wilberforce illustrate the breadth and depth of  passion and thoughtfulness that motivated England’s revered Statesman.  It is the goal of the Wilberforce Conference to bring to bear a breadth and depth of discourse spurred on by thoughtful presenters who seek to serve Christ in the public and private sectors.

This year each speaker will consider the nature and necessity of “Generosity” for Christian men and women who seek to honor God and love our neighbor in daily life.  You will hear reflections regarding business, the arts, the family, government and education.

Our prayer for this time together is at least two-fold:

First, as we both listen to and interact with fellow conference participants we pray that God’s kingdom will be made manifest simply through “friends getting  introduced to friends”.  The past few years we have heard story after story of the fruit of people getting to know one another in this brief yet focused time.

Second, we trust that the talents and wisdom of the leaders and presenters before us will promote in each of us the renewal of mind promoted by the Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Christians in Rome, specifically that we will live with faithful, joyful and even surprising generosity  in our varied spheres of influence and responsibility.  Thank you for taking the time and effort to pray and participate accordingly.
